Tutorial Progress

As I mentioned in my previous devlog, the 1.7 update will focus on adding tutorials to the game. I'm making this log today to report on my progress.

I am planning to add 3 tutorials to the game and these will cover the majority of the games mechanics. These tutorials will be extremely rigid in nature; forcing the player to make specific moves, and ignoring other input. At least one of the planned tutorials will let you finish off the level. Admittedly, this rigidness is mostly to simplify implementation. Allowing the player free reign in the tutorial could make things needlessly complicated the potential outcomes. Additionally, these tutorials are meant to teach the game's mechanics and controls. I am for the most part not teaching the player strategy.

The Programming part of this update is coming along pretty well. With most of the scripting already taken care of. That being said, a large portion of this update will be level building, and writing. Here are some screenshots of what I have for the first tutorial: (As a side note, the numbers on the map don't appear in the game, they are deactivated outside the unity editor)

This tutorial teaches the game's interface and controls. Along with some information on infantry units and capturing buildings.

The second tutorial will focus on how units match up in combat, i.e. what units can defeat other units. The third and final tutorial will focus on terrain and ranged units. You will be guided to move some rocket carriers into unassailable positions, and then bombard the enemy units to oblivion. I figured it might be a fun to finish off the tutorials with a shooting gallery.
